This is a simple 1-ingredient recipe to help fill a craving for crackers or cheeze-its. Good for movies as well.
- Preheat oven to 300 F
- Take a slice of cheese (any kind) and cut it into 9 squares with a pizza slicer. If you want more chips, use more slices of cheese.
- Put a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Place each square on the baking sheet and leave an inch between each one each way.
- Optional: Sprinkle on a seasoning or a sea salt (not too much, cheese is already salty). You could also do this after 5 minutes of being in the oven so the seasoning or salt sticks better to the cheese.
- Bake for ~20 minutes, but check it every few minutes after 10. Cheeses go through phases. It needs to bubble out and let the moisture leave. There is a sweet spot where it becomes just crispy enough, but leaving it in longer burns the cheese, so you have to check them and pull them out when they look crisp yet not burnt yet. This timing has never been consistent any time I’ve tried, so just keep an eye on it. Some say it took them up to 30 minutes. I guess it depends on your oven. I’ve also heard 375 F for 15 minutes works. Good luck.
You can store these in a tupperware container in the pantry for a day, or refrigerate them for a few days but they may get soft.
